Oddball’s innovation engine.
Our mission is to bring new capabilities to Oddball and our Federal clients, driving the company forward in the most innovative areas. We build reusable technology and working prototypes that our delivery teams customize into finished solutions.
We prototype, experiment, and build with AI-first practices, modern tools, and creative thinking. Working across the company and continuously collaborating with clients to find new solutions to the most pressing Government challenges.
Products
Our strategic product efforts the Labs team is pursuing: four building blocks, each aimed at a hard problem in government technology. Each block ships working prototypes that delivery teams shape into client products.
Agentic Experience
Frontier
AI-enhanced products and workflows: systems that plan, invoke tools, and execute multi-step tasks rather than produce single-turn responses. Frontier spans chat-based agents that generate accessible, standards-compliant interfaces, workflow agents with human-in-the-loop checkpoints, agent orchestration built on open standards, and AI-assisted tools that cut the burden of compliance documentation.
Ontology and Data
Forge
Products that help the Government define, organize, and govern what its domain knowledge actually means, formalized as ontologies, taxonomies, and knowledge graphs. Forge surfaces insights and connections that were previously infeasible to find in unstructured or voluminous data, from legacy modernization tools that uncover the business rules buried in old systems to AI-enhanced data platforms that make cleansing and deduplication fast.
AI and Data Governance
Steward
The compliance and accountability layer for AI implementation. Steward builds the policies, controls, and oversight mechanisms that let agencies deploy AI responsibly at enterprise scale: oversight tools for sustaining large application portfolios, automated scanning of in-flight products against standards like Section 508 and WCAG, and governance that keeps enterprise agent infrastructure authorized, audited, and access-controlled.
AI in Cybersecurity
Sentinel
Agentic security products that bring AI tooling to established cybersecurity practice. Sentinel covers guardrails for agentic interactions, including prompt-injection detection and AI red-team testing, monitoring tools that detect anomalous tool usage and data exfiltration inside agentic workflows, and Zero Trust designs aligned to CISA’s Zero Trust Maturity Model and OMB M-22-09.
Technologies
Our Lab isn’t starting from zero. Every technology solution draws on capabilities from our delivery teams across VA, CMS, SEC, USAF, and DHA, and every solution we ships flows back to our clients.
Cloud Architecture
Federal platforms run at scale on EKS, Fargate, and Aurora, with the migrations to prove it.
DevSecOps & CI/CD
Security built into the pipeline from the first commit, not bolted on for the audit.
Data Management & Analytics
Enterprise data platforms built and run at the scale of Medicare.
AI Delivery
AI where it counts: CMS-approved production AI running inside the federal boundary.
Legacy Modernization
COBOL to GitHub, Oracle to PostgreSQL, mainframe to open source.
Human-Centered Design
Design that starts with the person. Our teams maintain the VA Design System.
Section 508 Accessibility
Accessibility as the mission, with patterns other teams inherit.
Security & ATO Compliance
Compliance engineered as code on some of the government’s most scrutinized platforms.
Healthcare Interoperability
Bridging FHIR, HL7, and the legacy formats agencies cannot drop, through live EHR transitions.
Where clients pick what we build next.
At Oddball Labs in Rosslyn, Virginia we host client solutioning events and our “Oddtank” competitions. Leaning on cross-disciplined Oddball teams of product, design, and engineering we solution concepts with Federal clients and Oddball senior leaders. Oddtank winning pitches receive company investment and move immediately into prototyping with a client champion. The innovation is real, and zero cost to the Government.
Innovation and solution development
Surface new ideas for solving client problems, and train Oddballs to think as business leaders, not just technical contributors.
Client co-creation
Clients judge, choose, and champion. They leave as partners in shaping what gets built, not spectators.
Mission impact at scale
Every funded pitch takes aim at a real mission problem, and a client champion carries it forward to the people agencies serve.
