Come be odd with us.

Oddball is a strangely human force in government digital services: engineers, designers, program managers, and other tech professionals who chose the most meaningful version of this work — the systems Veterans, patients, and families depend on every day.

When your code ships here, a Veteran reaches their benefits, a family enrolls in health coverage, a claim goes through. The person on the other end of the work is the reason for it.

Our purpose is putting humans at the center of technology.

Five values shape how we get there, and you will hear them in real conversations here, not just on posters.

Client First

Embrace the client’s mission; our success is tied to theirs.

Big Picture

Focus on more than the individual item you’re working on.

Own It

Own the outcome, not just your efforts.

Great Teams

Build a positive culture and support the team, not just individual performance.

Growth Oriented

Emphasis on personal development and the areas of key growth for the company.

How we work

Remote first. Talent comes from across the country, not one metro area. Teams are badgeless: employees and partner teammates work one backlog, report to the same delivery lead, and hold themselves to the same standard.

Knowledge moves. Communities of Practice connect engineers across every agency we support, so a method proven at one client becomes the starting point at yours. And when a program hits a problem bigger than its roster, the rest of the company is already behind it, including our CTO-led Labs team.

AI-first, on purpose. AI here is a tool for raising the baseline of the work, never for cutting corners, and learning to use it well is part of the job, whatever your role.

Who we hire

Right person, right seat. Qualified isn’t enough: we hire for the person and personality first, then place them where their skills meet the mission. We look for character, a restless drive to make things better, and people who lift the teammates around them as a reflex.

A high bar. That bar makes offers rare, and it’s why the people here stay. You’ll work alongside teammates who care about the Veteran, the beneficiary, and the filer on the other end of the system as much as you do.

A fast, human process. A focused, four-step interview cadence measured in weeks, not months. New Oddballs get structured feedback in their first two weeks, regular check-ins, and a tenured teammate alongside them from day one.

The work you would do

Oddball builds and runs digital services for federal health, civil, and defense agencies serving tens of millions of people. Depending on your craft, that might mean the platform behind VA.gov, the data systems behind Medicare, modern tooling for the SEC, or products for military families.

The problems are real: legacy modernization measured in decades of code, accessibility as a mission instead of a checkbox, production AI inside some of the government’s most scrutinized environments. If you want your work to matter to someone beyond a quarterly metric, this is that job.

If this sounds like your kind of odd, we’d love to meet you.
